This time we are going to explore Ribatejo [means, ‘next to Tejo’]. Ribatejo is a central region in Portugal which is crossed by river Tejo. We are going to visit its southern part, witch is about 30 km away from Lisbon.
We are taking the train from Lisboa-Santa Apolónia to Vila Franca de Xira and then later in the evening the train back to Lisbon from Alhandra.
After arriving to Vila Franca de Xira, our first stop will be in a park.
Bring food! We’ll have lunch there. It is the perfect place to seat between the trees with a view over the river.
Than, our hike is going to be divide into two part.
In the first part we are going to walk along the river in a total flat pavement.
In the second part, we are going up hill to visit a beautiful farm which belonged to a noble family until XX century.
Afterwards we will go a beat more up hill. From the top we will have a fantastic view over the river and the flatlands of Ribatejo. We will be in a historical point, where barricades have been build in the beginning XIX century which blocked the Napoleonic troops from invading Lisbon in 1810.
The meeting point is at train ticket office in Santa-Apolónia [metro Santa-Apolónia at metro’s blue line].
An afternoon full of action!
