Discounts for Long-Distance Bus Journeys
Rede de Expressos is the biggest long-distance bus company in Portugal. It has two stations in Lisbon; Sete-Rios (the main one by metro station Jardim Zoológico) and Oriente (which is also a metro and train station). With Rede de Expressos, it is possible to go to most cities and some villages in Portugal.
If you get the Rede de Expressos card RFLEX, which is free of charge, it is possible to enjoy generous discounts on their rides. To give you an idea, if you buy a ticket online several days ahead of your departure day, it is possible to get a discount of up to 50%. As an example, you can often get a return ticket from Lisbon to Porto for as little as €20. If you don’t have a car, then this is easily the cheapest and most convenient way to get around the country.
The RFLEX card can be obtained online here. Rede de Expressos will send it to your home address, but you will need to have a Portuguese address. Once you have your RFLEX card, it will be automatically detected when you log into your account through the website or mobile app, and you’ll have immediate access to all available discounts.
